makeup quickie: cherry cola

When I received the Too Faced Sweet Indulgence Kit for Christmas, I couldn’t wait to use it. I immediately fell in love with one particular shade of the sixteen eyeshadows called Cherry Cola, which is a merlot colour with red sparkle. Here is a look I created using it as well as some other treats in the kit.

launch: marcelle bb cream

Inspired by the trends in Asia, I’m pleased to share with you that Marcelle is releasing an amazing new beauty and skin care product that is sure to make its way into your makeup cases. I had the chance to see and feel this at the Annabelle/Marcelle Beauty Premiere event in November and ever since, I’ve wanted a tube of my very own. An 8-in-1 multi-benefit beauty balm, BB Cream is a moisturizing skin care, tinted corrector and makeup base that enhances your natural beauty.

The Eight Multi-Benefits are:

  1. minimizes the appearance of imperfections and pores
  2. evens out skin tone
  3. replaces primers by providing an excellent makeup base
  4. mattifies skin and controls shine
  5. offers immediate and long-term hydrating benefits
  6. soothes and calms the skin
  7. protects from premature aging and environmental stresses
  8. promotes skin regeneration

Ideal for any age and skin type, BB Cream comes in two shades (light-to-medium & medium-to-dark) which works on a variety of skin tones due to its self-adjusting pigments. The fact that it’s hypo-allergenic as well as oil, paraben and fragrance free make this perfect for even sensitive and oily skin types.

The minute I had the BB Cream in my possession, I had to put it to the test. Although I’ve been blessed with decent skin, without a little foundation, I do have some slight redness and uneven tone. There are three ways to use Marcelle BB Cream. The first is on cleansed skin as a corrective tinted moisturizer. The second is to use it alone or over your moisturizer to unify your complexion. Finally, use it as a makeup base under foundation for total coverage and improved staying power. I opted for the first.

The before and after photos were taken in natural light and are untouched.

I instantly noticed a difference in how supple my skin felt and how even my complexion looked. Please know that this is ALL the BB Cream’s doing! I have no concealer or foundation on. Heck, I didn’t even apply any moisturizer! It’s like I’ve been Photoshopped! I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beauty-ful love affair.

You can get your hands on your very own tube of BB Cream as of February 6, 2012 when it’s launched at pharmacies and mass retail stores across Canada.

Marcelle BB Cream
$22.95 CAD – 45mL

events: the best of the imats

Another IMATS has come to a close for this year in Toronto. There were lots of amazing deals, demos and speakers to satiate the need for all things makeup. I attended the trade show on Sunday and enjoyed browsing all of the booths, indulging in a few cosmetic treats and sitting in on a great seminar by the charming celebrity makeup artist, Eve Pearl.

First up on my ‘Best of the IMATS’ adventure was visiting the Make Up For Ever booth. The deals were great! Aqua Cremes for $17 and Flash Palettes for $67 were only a few of the discounts they were offering.

I even had the opportunity to take a picture of one of the demo models at the booth while she was getting her makeup done and the final look. Isn’t it great?!

Next was OCC to indulge in their infamous Lip Tars. If you haven’t tried these out, do yourself a huge favour and order some of them on their online boutique. Probably one of the most versatile and quality lip products in my makeup kit.

Naturally, I couldn’t help but drop by the Hakuhodo booth. Their brushes are the Bentley of brushes; so luxuriously soft and decadent. In a perfect world, ALL of the brushes in my belt would be Hakuhodo.

Velour Lashes was one of my absolute favourites! The brand not only impressed me with their array of sexy mink (YES, you heard me right…MINK!) lashes, but the packaging was simply adorable and the epitome of girly. One of the lovely ladies at the booth was quite kind to let me photograph her lashes so I could share it with all of you.

I can’t by any means forget sitting in on Eve Pearl’s presentation “The Business Of Beauty”. She engaged the audience with her charming and extremely down to earth personality, sharing tips and tricks on how to be successful in the makeup business. She then did a demo using makeup from her brand, creating a flawless complexion on one of the seminar attendees. Her method of concealing under the eye is pretty impressive. I couldn’t help but continue to watch her work more makeup magic back at her booth.

A must have peruse at the show is always Temptu Pro to check out all the amazing and progressive things they are doing with airbrush makeup. This has been a constant intrigue for me as a makeup artist because I am not well versed in this aspect of the art and their booth is notorious for piquing my interest. The artists working the booth were busy demonstrating various looks from the fresh and natural to the dramatic and avant-garde.

The Bdellium Tools gents were a delight to meet and I must admit that their brushes are absolutely incredible and the prices are unbeatable. They had various collections that catered to all levels of artistry, from the beginner to the pro. I will definately be purchasing more of these tools in the future.

Then there’s the love of my life…the coveted ZÜCA booth and their amazing travel cases. Oozing with style and providing some sanity in an artists kit with all of their included pockets and pouches to help organize everything you need to beautify whatever the job. I want that zebra style model more than I can begin to express.

I must say, I had a blast this year at the IMATS Toronto and got to take in so much. If you haven’t had the chance to attend this show, I highly recommend it. It’s certainly a must have for any beauty lover and professional. See you all next year and stay tuned for my IMATS haul post coming soon.

behind the scenes: davines WSC pre-show

As you saw in my last blog post, there was a Davines Woman competition/photoshoot that some of my colleagues submitted to in June. Yesterday was the big show for the Canadian top ten finalists and I was hard at work backstage lending my makeup prowess for the pre-show extravaganza. Working with the creative genius’ Melanie Bourne and Paul Taylor, their vision was edgy, sexy and oozing glamour. Avant-garde hair mixed with an old Hollywood femininity synergized with Dior and McQueen style makeup and the AMAZING styling talents of Rebecca Mezger. The models were just stunning and the team pulled together a fantastic, high-energy show that was a definite crowd-pleaser.

Naturally I was snapping shots backstage in my usual paparazzi mode, so here are a few of my favourites.

behind the scenes: davines woman shoot 2011

Okay, I know it’s been what seems like an epic hiatus from blogging.  Many apologies for my absence. The summer has brought on many blog posting obstacles such as an overwhelming amount of bridal work, teaching, general summer shenanigans and a phenomenal photoshoot for the Davines Woman competition.

It’s no secret how much I love and respect all my colleagues and am always finding inspiration in their craft. It’s always a pleasure to have the opportunity to collaborate with them on a photoshoot and construct makeup looks that synergize with the beautiful hair they create. I wanted to share with you some of my favourite “behind the scenes” photos that I snapped in between contributing my makeup expertise on set.

And now for the final shots. I am so proud of these photos. The shoot was awesome and the energy was beyond fun.
